BEST SMALL-TOWN GETAWAY

Door County was recently named the "Best Small-Town Getaway in the Midwest" by Midwest Living magazine, which cited the County's "coastal charm" as one of the primary reasons for the award.

Midwest Living surveyed 8,500 small towns in the Midwest, with populations under 20,000, and narrowed the field down to the top 100, which were recognized in the May, 2007 issue of the magazine. The magazine elected to award the title of "Best Small-Town Getaway" to all of Door County, rather than single out an individual community within the County.

GREAT AMERICAN BEACHES

From a black-sand retreat on MAUI to a hidden strand on CAPE COD, Travel & Leisure magazine sifted through the country's 95,000 miles of shoreline before settling on these idyllic stretches. Fun for everyone. WHITEFISH DUNES STATE PARK in Door County made the list of 20 Great American Beaches in the July, 2007 issue of T+L. The editors comments: A five-minutes drive through a forest of birch and beech trees brings you to a wide strip of white sand and dunes fringed with high grass on turquoise Lake Michigan. T+L Tip - At the Big Red Tent pavilion, naturalists answer questions about native flora and fauna.
