Don’t forget to go cherry picking while vacationing in Door County. Cherries are our favorite fruits, and many visitors flock to this area with family and friends to spend their days filling up baskets of delicious, tart cherries to take home. With a large amount of cherry production in this region, the unique climate by the shore makes this place worthy of a stop in the summer months. If you’re looking for places to go for picking, we recommend Schartner's Farm Market in Egg Harbor or the Choice Orchards in Sturgeon Bay. Both are a short drive from our resort, but you can make a fun day trip out of this experience! You can also head to Lautenbach's Orchard Country, Winery & Market, located in Fish Creek. Currently, these locations are open for cherry picking and you'll want to get them during the last few days of the season!
Sounds interesting, right? For many years this unique tradition in Door County has brought together communities, friends, and families. It’s also entertaining for tourists and visitors to experience. Fish Boils have been occurring throughout Door County for more than 70 years. Using locally sourced whitefish from the Bay, restaurants have been creating fish boils which can include a whitefish, potatoes, and onions. Many restaurants also like to put a spin on this tradition boil. Here at the Carrington Pub, you can request a fish boil for large groups or try our Friday Fish Fry at the Carrington, which is different than a Fish Boil, but you'll still be able to eat lots of delicious and locally sourced fish.
State Parks are always a fan favorite in the summer months. Perfect for families, friends, lovers, you’ll enjoy the parks whether it’s hiking, biking, or a potential beach day. With quite a few options to choose, you’ll want to experience the day or afternoon at one of these fabulous spots, like, Potawatomi State Park which has close to 1,200 acres of land for you to enjoy. Whitefish Dunes has beautiful, soft sandy beaches so make sure you feel the cold waters and sand between your toes. Peninsula State Park has plenty of scenic outlooks which is perfect for photos. Finally, Newport is open year round and ideal for all sorts of activities like hiking, biking, kayaking, and more. Finally, Rock Island State Park is the fifth state park in the county and you'll get to ride two ferries to get access to the tip of Door County Peninsula. These parks are just a few of the more popular ones people tend to traverse.
Whether you choose to spend your days outside venturing through pathways at the many State Parks in our area, go cherry picking at a local orchard before the season is over, or you enjoy a delicious fish boil.
